Osoyoos August 2007

Picture_031.jpg

We love Osoyoos. Jerome's parents discovered this beautiful paradise and shared it with us. We were lucky enough to be able to purchase a condo there that we frequent a few times a year.

Holland August 2007

Picture_532.jpg

This may be the best vacation we have ever had as a family. Brett was 13 and Drew was 11. We rented an old cabin cruiser and drove through the waterways of Holland, what an experience! We were a true crew! Well, it was mostly the boys, there were times when I hid because I couldn't believe we were trying to make it into places that I didn't think we could go!
We hope that the cousins, aunts and uncles that we met in Holland will come and visit us one day!!

Mexico Lot Shots

Picture_158.jpg

A bunch of us friends from Chestermere each purchased lots in Mexico to hopefully retire on. Next step... build... or park a trailer. It's a 5 minute quad ride to the beach, then we can take the seadoos across to the island on the Sea of Cortez.

Picture_479.jpg

We went back to visit our lots and dream of the future.... this was an adult only trip, we had blast!!! Jerome had broken his leg 10 days before we left..... he tried to keep up but did a fair bit of resting... I recommend that you NOT let your husband play hockey prior to a holiday... :-)

Ice Fields August 2008

Osoyoos_113.jpg

We had driven by the Ice Fields a number of times on our way up the Prince George or Vanderhoof, this time we decided we better stop in and see this amazing glacier. Jerome's fingers swelled up so much he could hardly bend them, must have been frost bite!! None the less we enjoyed walking on the massive ice chunks with small crevices of melting glacier water running through.... wild stuff!

Maui, Hawaii January 2010

tail3.jpg

Another place we love and hadn't been for a while, Maui, Hawaii!! Maui is our first love. In the first first years after we moved to Chestermere (1998) friends of ours invited us to come and stay with them there, how could we refuse! Drew was 2, Brett 4 it was our first real holiday and we went back a number of years after that, we had the travel bug! This trip was the best whale watching we have ever seen. January is prime because the mothers are giving birth, so they are very near the island. You will see the great shots that Jerome got, they are just awesome!!

Mum's 70th Birthday July 2010

Bday004.JPG

She was so surprised!!!! Paul setup the "real" party on her birthday, which was the Thursday, so by the time Saturday rolled around she had NO idea! Guests travelled from far and near, was a great time. She wouldn't let us do anything for her 65th so she was nailed on her 70th!! HAPPY Birthday Mum!

Ecuador - Mum and I - October 2010
Cotacachi - Pre-SchoolMicky is organizing adding a bathroom to an Ecuadorian Pre-school that currently does not have one. We attended a Minga, which is a work party, at the school. What an eye-opener, sweet, innocent children, that have no idea they are doing without. We were told that they have a pre-school so that the parents are able to work. Their ages are 3 1/2 to 5 years. Interesting fact about the education in Ecuador, their college and university is ALL FREE. Most of South America is like that.
If you want to check the progress of the school you can check out Micky's website at: http://www.ecuadorprojecthope.org/

The Galapagos Islands!Mum and I spent 3 nights, 4 days on a Luxury cruise around the Galapagos Islands. We met some amazing people from all over the world, snorkelled with sea lions and walked amongst hundreds of iguanas and sea lions. This is a MUST DO!

Day 1 - Bartholomew Island

Day1051.JPG

We landed on North Seymour Island and headed directly to Bartholomew Island. There we jumped into dinghys and took a tour around the island with our guide. They called the boats something different but I can't remember what that was, if you remember, please drop me a note.

We saw penguins, sea lions, crabs on our cruise around the island. Then we landed and were greeted by a friendly sea lion who decided my backpack was interesting. I was getting my camera out and when I turned back he was right beside me sniffing my backpack. Shreek!! There is a little video of my friend in the video album.

We then climed over 300 stairs up to the summit, what a sunset!!

Day 2 - Isabela Island : Fernandina Island

Day2025.JPG

After a fabulous breakfast, we went for another dinghy ride, this time around Isabela Island. Waves were very strong crashing against the shore so we kept our distance, but could see, and hear, fur seals in the rocks and water. We then headed out to see a bit in search of a Sun Fish. This fish has no tail fin but instead has a fin on its top and bottom. At first glance it looked like a shark except for the fact that it had to wiggle to swim through the water. Very cool!! I took a short video of one.

Later we went snorkelling for the first time and I saw one underwater, WOW!! They are HUGE! It looked like a big round balloon with an eye, just floating there. It must have been 4-5 in diameter! I've included a couple of photos I found online.

There were also a couple of penguins swimming and playing with some birds above the water. Maybe the birds thought they were fish! A few turtles were also close by.

After lunch we went to Fernandina Island. It was amazing to see the Iguanas EVERYWHERE! You had to watch that you didn't step on them as they were the same color as the rocks. They stood perfectly still, soaking up the sun and occassionally spitting. Interesting fact: they have adapted to only drinking seawater, so when they spit, they are spitting out salt.

Day 3 - Santiago Island : Rabida Island

Day3053.JPG

We travelled all night to get to Santiago Island and found a dinosaur on the beach. It's a good thing I enjoyed that night ride or I may have been scared.

After walking around Santiago Island we went snorkeling. Almost immediately a small sea lion showed up and began playing with Peter. It was amazing to watch. He would do what the sea lion was doing, kind of swimming in an 8 sort of motion, and the sea lion just kept swimming along with him. We also saw an Iguana feeding on one of the rocks UNDER the water, neat!

After another fabulous lunch, we went walking on Rabida Island. It is covered in red rock and sand. The beach was filled with sea lions that we had to walk through to get to the path. Of course Mum picked the dominant male for me to have a picture with, and he rudely declined. Chasing me off the beach, yikes!! He almost got Peter as well!

Day 4 - San Cristobal Island

Day4011.JPG

In the morning we walked along a very rocky shore, avoiding sea lions, and searching for Blue Footed Boobies. We found some!! A bit sad as their baby wasn't moving and they were trying to revive it. Very unique birds though, crazy blue feet.

The walk back was through a forest of sea lions, two little ones walked right by me! We later snorkelled and swam with 6 sea lions around the boat. What an awesome last day, wish it wouldn't end. Mum however didn't sleep much the night before and was ready to hit land for a while.

QuitoWe started in Quito and we finished in Quito. Back to the downtown markets for a bit more shopping. We actually ended up staying at a very quiet B & B on the edge of town so we hit the mall everyday, now that's more NA (North American) shopping. The kiosk vendors were waving at us as they came to recognize us because we were there so much.
